Last September, while playing in the creek, Brad and
Brylie caught a little soft shell turtle, about the size of a silver dollar. Since
Brylie had just gotten a fish
aquarium for her Birthday, Brad thought is would be cool to keep the turtle. I was against it, but
Brylie was so excited. So we took him home and put him in with the fish.
Brylie would sit on the couch and watch him swim around all the time. And she always called him Frog, she would tell you he was a turtle, but still called him Frog. So his name became Frog. All was good for a couple of weeks or so. Then the fish slowly started
disappearing, one at a time. So, Frog got his own 10 Gallon
aquarium, and we had to buy new fish! We built him a little cave with rocks and a little perch to get up out of the water. He was fun to watch! But he continued to grow and grow and grow. He could no longer sit on his perch and he pushed the rocks from his cave around. SO we tried to convince
Brylie is was time to put Frog back in the creek. We caught
minnows for him to make sure he could
survive without us feeding him. The
minnows scared him, I think, he hide under the rocks for two days, but then he did eat the
minnows finally. But then
Brylie decided she didn't want to let Frog go "just yet"!
Opa and
Oma told
Brylie they saw Frog's mommy at the creek, and she was looking for him. Just like
Nemo's daddy was looking for him. And
Opa started throwing a little corn in the creek right at the crossing every night, so we would see Frog's mommy when we drove by. Well last Thur. night we were at
Opa and
Oma's, and somehow
Brylie got it in her head that it was Frog's Birthday, and his mommy wanted to give him a party. Not sure if
Opa and
Oma told her that or what, but it worked. First thing Friday morning, we sang Happy Birthday to Frog and released him back into the creek.

Brylie did so good! We now have to check on Frog every time we go to Opa's house. And lucky for us, every time we have gone to the creek, Brylie has seen some turtles. Not sure its really Frog, but Brylie is content seeing any turtle.
